Introduced in 2017, Section Chief Competency Workshops consist of two classes – the Basic and Advanced. The former is designed for the section chiefs whose seniority is less than three years at the Executive Yuan and local institutes; the latter is for those whose seniority reaches three years and more. Both classes are sub-divided into “Centrals” and “Locals”, based on where the section chiefs work. Features of the workshops are as follows:
- Great emphasis is put on practicality. The classes invite high-ranking civil servants to share their practical experiences of working for the government.
- Diverse Teaching Methods. The workshops adopt multiple teaching methods, such as group discussions, case studies, and practical activities.
- Trainees will be assessed, and trainees are expected to apply the learned skills to their jobs.
More importantly, the Section Chief Competency Workshops aim to improve bilateral communication skills and build collaborative networks between different departments in the public service system through more mutual discussions and exchange of opinions.
