In order to reach the goal of the 2030 bilingual policy and improve civil servants’ English ability, the Civil Service Development Institute (CSDI) focuses on strengthening the English proficiency of civil servants who are in charge of international affairs. CSDI has cooperated with Providence University to plan and conduct the ‘2022 English Training Program for Middle-/High-Ranking Government Officials.’ The Closing Ceremony and Presentation of the Achievements of the SDG Goals will be held at the Nantou Branch of CSDI. The 23 trainees from various central agencies who handled international affairs and business requiring English communication skills demonstrated their achievements from the English training program.

CSDI has prepared an intensive English-training project for middle/high-level civil servants and it has been implemented for years. Trainees from a variety of government organizations have utilized their newfound skills in the workplace to great effect. Furthermore, from this year’s trainees’ achievement performance, it can be seen that they can indeed demonstrate their English ability confidently under the well-designed courses.

The deputy minister, Ping-Jou Lee, of DGPA, states that the curriculum contains 50 hours of online learning and 172 hours of in-person classes in 4 weeks. Based on the English-Only Policy, students are immersed in an intensive and comprehensive environment. Also, with the help of multi-national professors’ consultation and teaching methods, students will infinitely boost their English abilities in listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Our government will provide various methods of cultivating English communication abilities with systematical resources based on civil servants’ work and competencies.

The deputy minister, Lee, sincerely wishes all the trainees would effortlessly apply what they’ve learned here to the work and make learning and practice into one after returning to their position. He also sincerely hopes everyone will fluently communicate with international representatives in many future cross-country meetings and become Taiwan’s professional talents in international affairs.
